Compresed Fiberboard Market Size, Analytical Overview, Growth Factors, Demand, Trends And Forecast To 2027
Compressed Fiberboard Market: Introduction
·
A compressed
fiberboard is a type of engineered wood wallboard, which is composed of
wood fibers, sawdust, softwood flakes, and other materials such as paper or
cardboard. All these materials are mixed with synthetic resin and wax and then,
compressed in a de-fibrator machine under heat to form rigid sheets.
Types of Compressed
Fiberboards
·
Based on density, compressed fiberboards are classified into three key
types: low-density fiberboards (LDFs), medium-density fiberboards (MDFs), and
high-density fiberboards (HDFs). Low-density fiberboards, also known as
particle boards, primarily used for wall paneling, molding, and furniture
manufacture. The density of low-density fiberboards usually ranges between 160
kg/m³ and 450 kg/m³. Particle boards are less strong and inexpensive compared
to MDFs and HDFs. Low-density fiberboards are more vulnerable to humidity or
moisture, which makes them unsuitable for outdoor usage. Paints and sealants
are generally employed to protect these boards from expansion or discoloration
caused by moisture.
·
Medium-density fiberboard is another type of engineered wood, which is
made of small wood fibers. An MDF has smooth surface and no visible grains or
knots are present on the surface, as it is composed of small wood fibers. Wood
fibers are mixed with resins and compressed at a high temperature to form a
tight bonding. MDFs are denser than plywood. They are generally used as a building
material. In order to use MDFs for a long term, sealants are employed to
prevent damage caused by water. The density of MDF usually ranges between 600
kg/m³ and 800 kg/m³. It has industrial, commercial and residential
applications.
·
High-density fiberboards are harder and durable than MDFs and LDFs. The
density of HDFs is above 800 kg/m³, which makes them a perfect stabilizing
material for laminate flooring and engineered hardwood flooring. Like other
types, HDF cannot be used in outdoor applications, as it is more vulnerable to
moisture. Proper sealing is required to prevent any damage caused by moisture.

Key Drivers of
Global Compressed Fiberboard Market
·
Rising global population and increasing disposable income are key
factors driving the demand for residential and other construction projects. The
gross domestic products (GDPs) of countries in Asia Pacific and the GCC
sub-region are increasing. Governments of countries such as Bahrain, India,
Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are building more houses to meet the housing needs of
their urban as well as rural population. Compressed fiberboards can be used as
a building material, wall paneling, and for molding. This is projected to
augment the demand for compressed fiberboards in the near future.
·
Compressed fiberboards can also be used in the packaging of industrial
products. These fiberboards are largely employed in manufacturing and logistics
industries for packaging. According to information published by the UNCTAD
(United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) in 2015, in terms of
manufacturing output, China led the competition, with over US$ 2.01 Trn of
manufacturing output. The country accounted for 20% of the global manufacturing
output. It was followed by the U.S. (US$ 1.867 Trn of output), which accounted
for 18% of the global manufacturing output. China, the U.S., and Japan
collectively accounted for 48% of the global manufacturing output. These
countries as well as developing economies such as Vietnam and India witness
high demand for MDF packaging.
·
MDF is produced from recycled wood, paper, and cardboards, which helps
in protecting the environment. Increase in environmental concerns all over the
world is propelling the demand for compressed fiberboards.
Key Restraints of
Global Compressed Fiberboard Market
·
All types of compressed fiberboards are highly susceptible to water
damage, which can lead to expansion and discoloration of fiberboards. Regular
sealing of paints and wood sealants is required to safeguard these fiberboards.
This is one of the factors that can negatively impact the global market for
compressed fiberboards.
·
However, economies such as China, the U.S., and Japan are currently
facing temporary manufacturing slowdown, due to lockdown caused by COVID-19.
Similar to the case with the SARS outbreak, the economy is estimated to return
to the normal level in 2–3 months.

Global Compressed
Fiberboard Market, by Application
·
Compressed fiberboards are primarily used in industrial applications.
Some of the industrial products, such as chemicals bottles, are fragile and
they require a good level of packaging. MDF and HDF are more efficient and
durable options as compared to solid wood.
·
Compressed fiberboards are principally used in furniture manufacture.
With the growing construction of homes and commercial offices, the demand for
wooden furniture made of compressed fiberboards is expected to increase in the
near future.
·
Compressed fiberboards are also used as interior decoration and building
materials. For molding and manufacturing of door and window components,
fiberboards are more cost effective and durable than their alternatives
available in the marketplace.
