·         A compressed fiberboard is a type of engineered wood wallboard, which is composed of wood fibers, sawdust, softwood flakes, and other materials such as paper or cardboard. Types of Compressed Fiberboards

·         Based on density, compressed fiberboards are classified into three key types: low-density fiberboards (LDFs), medium-density fiberboards (MDFs), and high-density fiberboards (HDFs). Low-density fiberboards, also known as particle boards, primarily used for wall paneling, molding, and furniture manufacture. The density of low-density fiberboards usually ranges between 160 kg/m³ and 450 kg/m³. Particle boards are less strong and inexpensive compared to MDFs and HDFs. Low-density fiberboards are more vulnerable to humidity or moisture, which makes them unsuitable for outdoor usage. Paints and sealants are generally employed to protect these boards from expansion or discoloration caused by moisture.

·         Medium-density fiberboard is another type of engineered wood, which is made of small wood fibers. An MDF has smooth surface and no visible grains or knots are present on the surface, as it is composed of small wood fibers. Wood fibers are mixed with resins and compressed at a high temperature to form a tight bonding. MDFs are denser than plywood. They are generally used as a building material. In order to use MDFs for a long term, sealants are employed to prevent damage caused by water. The density of MDF usually ranges between 600 kg/m³ and 800 kg/m³. It has industrial, commercial and residential applications.

·         High-density fiberboards are harder and durable than MDFs and LDFs. The density of HDFs is above 800 kg/m³, which makes them a perfect stabilizing material for laminate flooring and engineered hardwood flooring. Like other types, HDF cannot be used in outdoor applications, as it is more vulnerable to moisture. Proper sealing is required to prevent any damage caused by moisture.
